Unlike the other cyborgs, he feels, but only anger and annoyance. Pilot-for-hire Brady Miller is just passing through. After all, what does she have to lose? We are as one fist, one blade, one almighty force. Worse, she'd blow his cover. It sort of just happened.

This book has those little moments that pull at your heartstrings. This is a slow burn romance that uses tension in the most glorious way. Leving writes a balanced well-written book with characters that you just cannot get enough of. So damn good! Leslie Raymond has had her heart shattered. The wounds are deep and extraordinarily painful she decides to move from her home in Florida back to her childhood residence in Burbank, California.
Erica Cooper is a college professor and mother to Siena, a special needs child that that is on the autistic spectrum. Siena is immediately taken to Leslie and her dog. They strike up and unlikely friendship that is filled with understating, patience and kindness. Erica and Leslie each have baggage and trust issues from previous relationships. They develop an easy friendship that builds as the story moves along. It feels real, I cannot say how impressive these characters are.
Not to mention the chemistry between Erica and Leslie is out of this world. What makes this book special is not just the two mains and their romance but how Siena and even Gus, the dog all play such an intricate role in the book. You cannot help but fall in love with them all. This is an amazing story. Dec 09, Arien rated it it was amazing Shelves: kid-is-in-the-picture , disability , all-time-favorites , lesbian-romance.
Absolutely loved this read. The characters, the story, the dialogue, the special needs angle, everything. A great read from start to finish. Even the cover is downright gorgeous. This is another book that hits on all the right notes for me while having very little downsides which aren't worth mentioning. I even shed a few tears at the end, something that hasn't happened in a while after finishing a book.
Jeannie Levig is getting better with each new work. Embracing the Dawn was good but this was awesome. I'm looking forward to her next book. View 2 comments. This book seems like a typical falling in love with the next door neighbour, but believe me, it's so much more.
It's been a while since I've rated a book 5 star, but it seem like the author wish upon a star for it! Both the protagonist in this story are in their 50's which is refreshing to read because they were both mature and responsible. There were no unnecessary drama or acting stupid, just two women working through their past and baggage while slowly falling in love with each other. The beaut This book seems like a typical falling in love with the next door neighbour, but believe me, it's so much more.
The beautiful and special thing about this book is that, it is not just the love of the two women that has been portrayed beautifully, but I'm truly touched by the portrayal of a mothers love of their children from the POV of both Leslie and Erica. Have I mentioned there's a dog too?
And a very sweet one too! Erica's daughter Siena is autistic which makes the role of Gus a dog Leslie pick up on the road much more involved and sweet. This is a slow burn, but not because the MC's didn't see how perfect they will be for each other. It's the working though their past and baggage story arc which makes this one really captivating and touching. The chemistry, the banter, the emotions, the build up, the arc, the pace, the secondary characters, the narrative, everything was just right and beautifully done.

Highly recommended. This novel left me feeling all warm and fluffy. I love the sizzling chemistry between Leslie and Erica. I love Siena, Erica's daughter. And I really don't have words to praise Gus, the most wonderful dog in the world. Pretty much everything in this story is gold. A very enjoyable read I always like reading romance stories with the MCs being in there 30s or younger, 40s is usually pushing it for me.
So color me surprised when I began reading this book with both MCs were in their 50s! But I couldnt not read it because the story was just so captivating to me and Leslie and Erica just drew me in along with Sienna and Gus. The secondary characters were great additions and the angst was kept at a minimum but played well when needed.
Im not gonna lie I wish ther A very enjoyable read I always like reading romance stories with the MCs being in there 30s or younger, 40s is usually pushing it for me. Im not gonna lie I wish there was more news on the Elijah front as that story is just sad but oh well. I give this one a solid 5stars for me View all 5 comments. Very sweet and lovely story. ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review. I loved everything about this book. Erica, and especially Leslie, are fantastic characters, also older than those in most lesfic which made for a nice change. And while kids in stories can be hit and miss for me I adored Sienna even t ARC received via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
And I love dogs, so I thought Gus was one of the best characters in the book, so sweet. I also liked that even when the two leads were having issues, both early in the book and late, that they resolved them by talking and they also put Sienna first.
Dec 07, Carrie rated it it was amazing Shelves: favorites. To me, this was a near perfect romance. Levig found the right way to show these characters gradually developing feelings and attachments. No insta-romance here. No scratching your head with circumstances.
No projecting chemistry because you want it. This felt as authentic as anything I've read before. Leslie is a 50 something lesbian that leaves Florida to return to her hometown after her life is basically stolen from her. She becomes enchanted by the young next door neighbor. And so do the reade To me, this was a near perfect romance.
And so do the readers.. Then Leslie meets the 50 something mother next door soon after. What follows is a beautiful story of starting over, selflessness, letting go, learning to accept love and support, and falling in.
